The Grupo ADI is supporting the Hospital Sant Joan de Déu by providing machinery for the laboratory conducting research into childhood cancer, which remains random and unpredictable, a disease different from cancer in adults. There is very little research into it, as there is 1 case in children for every 200 cases in adults, such that it is not considered worthwhile.
Cancer continues to be the leading cause of death in children in most developed countries. In Spain, about 1,200 new cases are diagnosed in children and adolescents yearly, while 400,000 cases are diagnosed worldwide. For each of these children, research is their only hope.
The Hospital Sant Joan de Déu in Barcelona treats more cases of childhood cancer than any other in Spain. It features an advanced diagnosis and research laboratory for childhood cancer staffed by more than 45 professionals, allowing it to offer the most advanced treatments. 60% of the laboratory’s budget comes from private donations from organizations and individual givers that make it possible.
We are attaching a guided tour of this laboratory.
At the Grupo ADI, we are doing our small part in the fight against childhood cancer.
