CORROSION

Q-FOG CYCLIC CORROSION CHAMBERS

Conventional salt spray tests were used to simulate corrosion in a laboratory but did not mimic the natu-ral wet/dry cycles present outdoors, resulting in low correlation with outdoor weathering effects. Inste-ad, the Q-FOG cyclic corrosion chamber exposes samples to a series of different environments in a repe-titive cycle that mimics weathering effects, including simple cycles between salt spray and dry conditions or more sophisticated cycles incorporating humidity or condensation.

The Q-FOG chamber allows for the easy programming of extremely complex test cycles through its con-troller.

PRECISE CONTROL OF MIST DISPERSION

The Q-FOG cyclic corrosion chamber has superior mist dispersion compared to conventional systems that cannot vary volume and distance independently. A variable-speed peristaltic pump controls the amount of corrosive solution delivered to the mist atomizer, while the air pressure regulator controls the “throw” distance. Note that purified water is needed for the proper operation of Q-FOG corrosion chambers.

INTERNAL SOLUTION TANK

The 120-liter internal tank has sufficient capacity to run most tests for 7 days or more. The tank features an integrated salt filter and a built-in alarm to alert the operator when the solution is low.

RAPID CYCLING

Q-FOG chambers can change temperatures exceptionally fast, thanks to their unique internal chamber heater and high-volume air circulation for cooling/drying. An additional air heater allows for exposures with very low humidity. Conventional chambers with water jackets cannot achieve rapid cycles due to the thermal mass of water and cannot produce low humidity.

EASY PROGRAMMING AND SAMPLE MOUNTING

The Q-FOG test chamber is designed to cycle between four conditions: mist, drying, 100% humidity (CCT model only), and rest. Test conditions, time, and temperature are controlled by a built-in microprocessor. A remarkably simple user interface with dual full-color touch screens allows for easy programming and user operation in 17 languages. The operator can quickly create new cycles or run any of the pre-programmed cycles. The Q-FOG controller includes complete self-diagnosis, including warning messages, routine service reminders, and safety shut-off.

Q-FOG CRH units are equipped with a viewing window on the side of the lid and an internal light for easy monitoring of test conditions. SSP-600 and CCT-600 models have a capacity of up to 160 test panels of size 75 mm × 15 mm. SSP-1100 and CCT-1100 models have a capacity of up to 240 test panels.
